Wenmar Beef Shorthorns

Specialist Breed Shorthorn Cattle Embyros and GeneticsWarren Farm in Worcestershire is the home of the Wenmar herd of beef shorthorn cattle. The first Wenmar beef shorthorns came together on the Isle of Man in the early 1990’s when the herd was first founded. The focus at Wenmar Beef Shorthorns has always been on improving the native breeds of beef cattle. The beef shorthorn herd shared the farm on the Isle of Man with Hereford and Highland Cattle. Our Herefords were dispersed direct from our farm on the Isle of Man. The Highland Cattle were dispersed in the late summer of 2011. Our focus now is solely on pedigree beef shorthorns.

The aim at Wenmar is to work with Worldwide genetics using imported semen and embryos from Canada, Australia and the US. As a source of our embryos we primarily use shared ownership of donor cows. Recently we have increased our genetic pool using short term lease arrangements. We also selectively purchase groups of embryos and specific flushes through our pool of contacts as a bespoke customer service.

Wenmar Beef Shorthorn cattle are focussed on expanding the UK gene pool, breeding quality bulls and heifers suitable to carry the breed forward onto the next generation. We seek to produce a beast that is capable of efficiently producing quality beef for today’s marketplace. We like our cattle to exhibit breed character, and must maintain the true beef shorthorn traits as a hardy productive suckler cow. We focus on easy calving mothers with good udders and plenty of milk, coupled with mobility and a good temperament. Wenmar Beef Shorthorns are members of PCHS, and all our cattle carry a very high health status.
